Network Security for MANETS

چکیده

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a network consisting of a collection of nodes capable of communicating with each other without the help from a network infrastructure. Although security issues in mobile ad hoc networks have been a major focus in the recent years, the development of fully secure schemes for these networks has not been entirely achieved till now. MANETs have a unique characteristics and constraints that make traditional approaches to security inadequate. The lack of an infrastructure exacerbates the situation of using shared secret keys or authentication among members. Therefore, the issues of authentication, key distribution and intrusion detection require different methods, which are discussed here. In this paper, we propose to combine efficient techniques from elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and a distributed intrusion detection system (IDS) based on threshold cryptography. And also propose to use a distributed certifying authority (CA) along with per-packet per-hop authentication for addressing the issues mentioned above. The model assumes that no single node can be trusted and relies instead on a distributed trust model. Secure Routing Protocol: Affection on MANETs Performance

In mobile ad hoc networks, the absence ofinfrastructure and the consequent absence of authorizationfacilities impede the usual practice of establishing a practicalcriterion to distinguishing nodes as trusted and distrusted.Since all nodes in the MANETs would be used as router inmulti-hop applications, secure routing protocols have vital rulein the security of the network. So evaluating the perf...

BeeID: intrusion detection in AODV-based MANETs using artificial Bee colony and negative selection algorithms

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are multi-hop wireless networks of mobile nodes constructed dynamically without the use of any fixed network infrastructure. Due to inherent characteristics of these networks, malicious nodes can easily disrupt the routing process. A traditional approach to detect such malicious network activities is to build a profile of the normal network traffic, and then iden...

A two-phase wormhole attack detection scheme in MANETs

Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) have no fixed infrastructure, so all network operations such as routing and packet forwarding are done by the nodes themselves. However, almost all common existing routing protocols basically focus on performance measures regardless of security issues. Since these protocols consider all nodes to be trustworthy, they are prone to serious security threats. Wormhole...

Key Management in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) eliminate the need for pre-existing infrastructure by relying on the nodes to perform all network services. The connectivity between the nodes is sporadic due to the shared, error-prone wireless medium and frequent route failures caused by node mobility. Fully self-organized MANETs are created solely by the end-users for a common purpose in an ad hoc fashion. For...

Mobile Ad-hoc networks (MANETs), providing infrastructure-free wireless instant communication, play important role in tactical military networks. However, providing security in tactical military MANETs, having very large and dynamic structure without infrastructure support in hostile environments, is a very difficult task. In order to address security problems in tactical military MANETs, we pr...

Topology Control and Hop-by-hop Authentication in MANETs with Cooperative Communications

Cooperative communications can significantly enhance transmission reliability and bandwidth efficiency in wireless networks. However, the impact of cooperative communications on network-level upper layer issues, such as topology control, routing and network capacity, is largely ignored. At the same time, security is an important issue in MANETs and existing security schemes have significant imp...
